Business Partners International (BPI)
2009 Ministry Update

Praise God for the work He is doing in Guatemala through the faithful!

Background

Guatemala is a relatively poor country where more than three quarters of the population lives in poverty. Wealth is concentrated among the upper class. Progress has been hindered by decades of civil war and the lack of a diverse manufacturing sector. Several years ago God put on heart of Shower of Grace Church (SOG) Senior Pastor Edmundo Guillen the great need and “call to action” to redeem the Guatemalan culture for Christ. This was to be accomplished by:
1) The population coming to know Christ through the Church.
2) Making education a priority through the Church to help irradiate the low literacy rate.
3) Teaching the “ science of how to do Business God’s way” to the believing community in the Church and break the poverty cycle.
Using the Showers of Grace Church as the distribution platform and thought the leadership of Pastor Edmundo SOG they began to faithfully action these God inspired tasks. As SOG progressed Pastor Guillen realized Showers of Grace Church had the capacity to action points one and two but need the help of outside Christian Business people to help with the third point.

Business Partners International (BPI ) role is serve the Showers of Grace “ “Entrepreneur School” business ministry by mobilizing Perimeter Members to go and teach how to research, start and operate a business. But more specifically a Kingdom Company. Each student is hand picked by the pastor community in the church . The students must be debt free, pastor recommended and have an idea for business they believe came form God. In every case these students have a passionate love for the Lord and there hearts are right for the Kingdom Business teaching.

BPI Guatemala Meeting

The Mission:

In the mid 1990's Guatemala emerged from a prolonged civil war . Economic confusion and staggering unemployment reigned the day. Perimeter Church's BPI ministry and the Jholdas Group have responded by partnering with Showers of Grace Church in Guatemala City to teach and launch Micro Enterprise Kingdom Companies.

The Guatemala project has the potential to create small businesses and employment for qualified candidates. The process includes multiple teams of American business people teaching a prepared curriculum, assisting in the development of business plans, and providing micro-loans to graduates.

Our fearless leader started us off this morning with a great devotional and got us fired up to serve. The students arrived ready to learn and very excited. We started the workshops which allowed them to really start putting things on paper about their business. Erin came in this morning to help translate and to give our brother Gabriel a break. She is actually from New York but lives here in Guatemala. We can't tell you how much we appreciate her and her husband Jose. They have been a great blessing to us. Estuardo also spoke with the class today and gave a great testimony on his business and his life. He shared successes and failures and was very honest about his mistakes. His prayer is that these students learn from him and that they do not make the same mistakes. It was a very powerful moment for all of us.

After another wonderful Guatemalan lunch - Dominos Pizza, we completed the rest of the training. After the training was completed the students began to share what this training has meant to them. Just as the night before, the impact is powerful and we are thankful that we have been called here. They are very grateful for us being here and we are very, very, humbled by their love, attitude and faith. God bless this country!

We wrapped up our final evening with the Perez family and they took us by their new home that is being built. Estuardo and the kids showed us where our rooms will be and how they would like to cook for us and entertain us when we are in Guatemala. They told us that their dream is to complete this home for us as well and that they wanted our families to come and stay with them. We prayed with them that God would bless this home and that it would be a special place for many people to rest. We ended the evening with a great meal and they dropped us off at the MMM compound. When we arrived we talked with the college students that had been out in the villages with Herman and his team of Dr's and they shared stories of the past few days. This is really an amazing group to kids. God is working in their lives and giving them experiences and blessings that many never experience. Herman also came in and shared some encouraging words and prayed for us.

Sunday morning we got up and had a few minutes with Herman and he shared scripture with us and prayed with us before heading to Showers of Grace for worship. We arrived at S of G and the worship was powerful and charismatic as always. We were invited up on the stage by lead pastor Emundo Gullen and his wife Berlin. They thanked us and told us how much they appreciated us being here. Again, another humbling but grateful moment for us all. David said a few words to the congregation and Berlin translated. Emundo's teaching was powerful and we enjoyed the music and time of worship. It was a somber moment as Estuardo, Gladys, Javier and Dulce dropped us off at the airport but it was also great to know that we'll be back very soon to spend time with our brothers and sisters in Christ. Terry, David and I are all now "GuateAmericans". We love this place and we are thankful that God has called us here. Amen

We met with some of the past graduates of the BPI training this afternoon to discuss how their businesses were going and ask if there was anything we could do to help. We met w/ William (and his wife) (bank security), Luis (video production), Lilly (party supplies and rental), and Francisco (accountant). We discussed the "good, the bad, and ugly" that affects all of us in business. We finished the meeting with a very powerful time of prayer for each of the students and Estuardo. I pray that all of you will someday experience the prayers of the Guatemalans. You better bring a tissue (or a box of tissue!) if you do. We all have a lot to learn from their faith.
Last night was a very nice surprise. We had over 40 people in the class that were interested in starting a new business or growing an existing business. This is very encouraging and shows just how much the Guatemalans want to serve the Lord with their businesses. Gabriel translated for us and the message really seemed to be clear to them. It's awesome to see the smiles on their faces (despite some very difficult situations) and the faith that they have in Jesus. Terry, David, Estuardo and I all agreed that this was a great start for Phase 1 training and that God has some great things in store for these students and the impact they can have in Guatemala. All of the students came up to us and were very grateful for us being here. We dashed out for a unique late Guatemalan dinner at Wendy's. Yes, they love Wendy's too!

I meant to also post the great time we had yesterday (tuesday). To our surprise we were just in time for a baby shower (Cynthina is having twins in July) and we had a great time. They served a very big breakfast and we laughed and shared stories together. She received a lot diapers and she's going to need them with twins! We then headed to meet with Estuardo and discuss the progress that was being made with the past graduates of the BPI training. After a great meeting and time of prayer with Estuardo and Gladys we headed over to the church to meet with the church leaders group and begin the "train the trainer" process. We had 12 leaders in the class and one up and rising leader (Javier who is 13 and very sharp). It was a very blessed time and many questions were asked and many suggestions were made to make the material effective in the villages and to Guatemalans that had no formal education. This partership and direction with these leaders will help to make the training material much more effective and valuable.

This moring we woke up very early to try and beat the traffic. Not early enough! I thought Atlanta traffic was crazy. You should see it here! Detrich (Herman's brother) did a great job and even got us to Showers of Grace a few minutes early. Again we had a very good discussion, with a lot of interaction. We are just about to head into another meeting w/ the first graduates of BPI (Luis, Doris, Maria, William, etc) to discuss their businesses and hopefully encourage them and see how we can pray for them.

Greetings from Guatemala! We arrived safely yesterday and we had a great surprise. Gladys, Javier and Dulce were with Estuardo at the airport. What a blessing they are to this ministry and to the people of Guatemala.
We discussed the ministry plans for the week during lunch and had Estuardo get us up to speed on the happenings in Guatemala. Dr. Alb joined us for dinner last night and we met with two Christian gentlemen (Erick and Stefan) that are preparing to offer the HIghMark training in the fall. The meeting went very well and we had a great time of fellowship.
Tuesday morning started off early with quite time and prayer time and as we closed our prayers together Dr. Alb was sitting with us. He shared scripture from Luke, John, Romans and Ezekiel. It was an amazing time as always and we are all excited about what God has in store us and the students this week. Tonight we are meeting with church leaders to review the Micro-Enterprise teaching. We are working with them to decide on the best way to teach the students in an urban and rural setting. Tomorrow night we will begin to teach the new students the small business material.
Please pray that we would be bold in our teachings and we would proclaim, in the name of Jesus, that these businesses will be successful and that they are free from Satan to become good business people as well. Pray for the students, the country of Guatemala and for Dr. Alb and his team.

More later and we thank you for your prayers! Buenos Dias
